Each semester we offer the colloquium as a way to keep up to date with research and developments in the digital humanities. These are relaxed meetings aimed to discuss a topic, work on a digital tool, comment on a book or talk with a guest. Here you can find the topics, readings and workshops we have worked on:

We talked about Digital Pedagogy with Jessica Lu, Associate Director of the Design Cultures and Creativity program and co-author of the book Doing Black Digital Humanities with Radical Intentionality. We also discussed the paper "Teaching DH on a Shoestring: Minimalist Digital Humanities Pedagogy".

Dr. Lisa Nakamura reflected on her early work Indigenous Circuits and a select portion on racist zoombombing from her forthcoming book project. 

November 11

"Do you wash your legs when you take a shower? The benefits and limitations of 'scraping'  and quantitative data methods on Twitter". Workshop offered by Post-Doctoral Associate Dr. Rianna Walcott, where she provided an introduction to using TAGS (Twitter Archiving Google Sheets) and concordancing software for textual analysis of Tweets. Using examples drawn from a trending Twitter topic from the summer of 2019, Rianna evaluates the benefits and limitations of 'scraping' in discourse analysis.
